Full Praise Restaurant: A Culinary Journey Through Sichuan Culture

George Cook's Award-Winning Design Marries Tradition and Innovation

Full Praise Restaurant, a unique Sichuan cuisine establishment in Kunming, Yunnan, is a testament to the innovative design approach of George Cook. The restaurant, which has won the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, is a harmonious blend of traditional Sichuan elements and modern design principles.

George Cook's inspiration for the Full Praise Restaurant came from the rich cultural tapestry of Chengdu. The design incorporates three elements that represent Sichuan: bamboo, Sichuan opera, and tea. These elements are seamlessly integrated into the indoor and outdoor spaces of the restaurant, creating an immersive dining experience that is quintessentially Sichuan.

What sets Full Praise Restaurant apart is its unique interpretation of Chengdu's local delicacies. Cook transforms the buildings of Chengdu's old houses into silhouette impressions, combines them with the names of the dishes, and arranges them in a way that presents the restaurant's theme and orientation while meeting functional requirements. This innovative approach has resulted in a restaurant design that is as flavorful and diverse as the cuisine it serves.

The restaurant's realization was made possible through the use of various materials such as terrazzo-like bricks, flame retardant panels, finished wood decorative panels, bamboo strips and bamboo knitting, square tubes, and latex paint. To meet the sensory experience requirements of contemporary consumers, Cook combined plant landscaping with metal, stainless steel, and natural stone in the space. The result is a restaurant that guarantees healthy food and quality service in a beautifully designed environment.

The Full Praise Restaurant covers a total of 450 square meters. The first floor includes the main entrance, reception receipt hall, tea display, water bar, public dining area, open kitchen, public landscape, stairwell, and toilet. The second floor houses the office, landscape aisle, public dining area, and private dining area. The overall planning and design of the restaurant have greatly improved operational efficiency, with clear service-oriented output and recycling flow.

The design project, which started in April 2018 and was completed in December 2018, faced several challenges. One of the most significant was ensuring the stability of the second floor structure without affecting the integrity of the first floor hall. After extensive research and discussion, the design team was able to overcome this challenge, resulting in a design that has been unanimously praised by the owner team.

In conclusion, Full Praise Restaurant is a shining example of how design can be used to enhance the dining experience. George Cook's innovative approach has resulted in a restaurant that not only serves delicious Sichuan cuisine but also provides an immersive journey through Sichuan culture. It is no wonder that this unique design has been recognized with a prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award.
